Beasts and Beauties

Retold by Carol Ann Duffy, dramatised by Melly Still and Tim Supple

10 - 31 December 2010

Overview

‘This is one of the finest family shows I have seen - inventive, dark, hilarious, and blessed with a dramatic panache that weaves a spell of pure pleasure.’ Charles Spencer, Daily Telegraph

Grisly and gruesome, hilarious and hair-raising, Hampstead Theatre's festive treat brings you Brothers Grimm and other European fairytales to make you laugh with delight and shiver with glee.

Featuring a beast with bad table manners and a goat that poos gold, Beasts and Beauties retells classic stories including 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'The Emperor's New Clothes'.

These tales are re-told by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy and dramatised by Tim Supple and Melly Still, who also directs and designs. Still has been described by The Times as 'an enchantress when it comes to story-telling'. Her other credits include Coram Boy at the National Theatre which was nominated for four Olivier Awards in London and six Tony Awards on Broadway.
