Creative Learning
Our Creative Learning programme is a thriving part of Hampstead Theatre's work. We aim to celebrate all aspects of the creative process in ways which support learning and bring the theatre's programme to new people. At its best, our work has the power to change lives.
'Heat&Light gave me the opportunity to write. It helped me develop my skills, and gave me the chance to work with Roy Williams and Tanika Gupta. Having graduated from Heat&Light to having my first play produced on the main stage at Hampstead, I feel very proud and grateful to have been part of this company.'
- Atiha Sen Gupta, writer of What Fatima Did... (2009)
'This first full-length work from the 21-year-old graduate of Hampstead's youth theatre company proves entertaining, thought-provoking and topical, giving a vivid impression of what it is like to be young and living in multi-cultural Britain'
- Daily Telegraph on Atiha Sen Gupta’s What Fatima Did... (Nov 2009)
‘My first encounter with Hampstead Theatre was a primary school trip when I was 8 years old. I am now a Peer Ambassador, which involves teaching and assisting drama projects for a range of different age groups. The experience has really boosted my confidence and has made me value responsibility.’
- Selom Awadzi, Young company member since 2003
We work closely with Hampstead Theatre artists and writers to find innovative ways to inspire creativity and develop emerging talent. The programme helps people of all ages to develop personal skills and we actively engage with some of the most disadvantaged groups in our local community.
