Schools
At the centre of the Creative Learning programme is a network of long term relationships with teachers and young people at local schools. Our ongoing in-school workshops engage a range of educational establishments from mainstream primary and secondary schools, to special schools, hospital schools and pupil referral units.
Hampstead’s long-established scriptwriting model involves a course of between 6 and 12 workshops, where up to 15 participants per group, are taught basic scriptwriting techniques and write their own short scripts. These plays are subsequently produced by a director and professional actors and performed to an invited audience of family, teachers and peers. Our kinaesthetic approach and inspiring facilitators which include professional playwrights connect with and motivate young people who are often disengaged from conventional education or are marginalized from society. Our scriptwriting courses therefore, not only support literacy, which in turn boosts learning across all subjects in the curriculum, but also improves motivation and self esteem. The young people grow in confidence, learn team working skills, improve their communication and are given a voice and an outlet for self expression.
Hampstead seeks funding on a regular basis so that we are able to offer our school scriptwriting projects free of charge for our local state schools. We also offer a limited number of unsubsidised projects to other schools. For more information about a project at your school please email us at creativelearning@hampsteadtheatre.com

'For the young people involved, a project such as this offers a unique opportunity for them to gain a sense of worth. To see their ideas and words taken seriously by a group of professional writers and actors is a life-enhancing experience that will affect them many years into the future. Watching our children watch their work performed at the Hampstead Theatre left us in no doubt that they will remember forever this project and that they have learned those things they CAN do; rather than those they cannot'
