EMBEDDED COMMUNITIES
Embedded Communities is a collaboration with local organisations to bring local people together to make and explore theatre.
Each organisation hosts a professional artist for an 8-week residency and through creative writing and performance sessions participants get to create a piece of theatre. The residency culminates with a sharing of the work at either Hampstead Theatre or the host venue.
Our current partners include:
The Winch
The Winch is a local charity that supports families and young people in Camden.
Our partnership has grown over the last three years and most recently brought together a group of residents in emergency accommodation at England’s Lane Hostel in Belsize Park to devise a piece of theatre. The project was led by actor Yasmin Dawes.
Age UK Camden
Age UK Camden is a local charity that offers support and services to older residents in the borough, with a mission to help them stay active, connected, and independent in later life.
Led by writer Martha Watson Allpress our first collaboration brought together a group of local residents to write a play about their experiences of ageing whilst challenging the stereotypes of getting older.
Wac Arts
Wac Arts is a local charity which supports young people and communities.
This partnership offered a new opportunity to explore the role theatre can play in fostering positive intergenerational relationships. Carmen Nasr ran a playwriting programme for young and older people which culminated in a sharing at Wac Arts.
Hampstead Theatre appreciates the generosity of its community of donors and members, whose contribution supports all our work. If you would like to make a donation to Embedded Communities please click the button below. All donations make a difference - thank you.
