DICKIE BEAU’S SHOWMANISM TO PLAY HAMPSTEAD THEATRE FOR A STRICTLY LIMITED RUN

Hampstead Theatre announces today that Dickie Beau’s critically acclaimed production Showmanism will play a strictly limited run at the theatre this summer. Having premiered at Theatre Royal Bath in 2022 the ‘astonishing’ (★★★★ The Guardian) and ‘a work of genius’ (★★★★★ What’s On Stage) production will play Hampstead’s Main Stage from 18 June to 12.

July with a press night scheduled for Monday 23 June. Tickets are on sale to Patrons and Friends from today with public booking opening on 6 May.

Showmanism is a kaleidoscopic journey through theatre and its history as seen through the lens of Dickie Beau’s celebrated, unique lip sync mix-tape medium.

The highly praised ‘startling, genre-smashing solo show’ (★★★★ Daily Telegraph) ‘with as much substance as style’ (★★★★ The Times) invites audiences to spend an evening in the company of stage and screen legends – Ian McKellen, Peter Sellars, Fiona Shaw and many more – as you have never seen, or heard, them before. Channelling a compelling collection of voices, Dickie traces a path through the world of performance in all its permutations, from Greek theatre to nightclub drag queens, from politics to puppetry.

Showmanism is an audiovisual love letter to performance that talks to us about art, about the world, and about being human.

Greg Ripley-Duggan, Producer and Chief Executive of Hampstead Theatre said:

“It’s such a joy to be bringing Dickie Beau’s brilliant Showmanism to Hampstead Theatre: he is a truly unique and deeply important theatre artist. Our audiences adored Dickie’s extraordinary Re-Member Me which we staged in 2023, so I am overjoyed to be able to share another of his glorious shows. There is absolutely nothing else like it out there!”

Dickie Beau recently played Oscar Wilde in Blanche McIntyre’s celebrated production of Tom Stoppard’s The Invention of Love at Hampstead Theatre. His other credits include playing Sandro Botticelli in Jordan Tannahill’s Botticelli in the Fire (Hampstead Theatre); Ariel in The Tempest (Theatre Royal Bath) and Kenny Everett in the Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody. Later this year Dickie will appear in the BBC drama What it Feels Like for a Girl.

Showmanism is directed by Jan-willem van den Bosch with design by Justin Nardella, lighting design by Marty Langthorne and sound design by Dan Steele.

Showmanism plays on the Main Stage from 18 June to 12 July.
