Roll out the red carpet as the annual end-of-year awards season fast approaches. Leading the way are the Evening Standard Theatre Awards which will be presented by James Corden at a star-studded dinner at the Savoy Hotel on Sunday, November 25.
The winners are chosen by a panel of distinguished theatre critics but while they are looking for innovation, impact and flair, it’s also worth celebrating a really good night out.
The Evening Standard have opened up one of their awards to an online public vote, putting the choice of winner in the Best Night Out category in the hands of the theatre-going public. From the stirring stage adaptation of Chariots of Fire to the flamboyant Cabaret, the West End’s plays and musical continue to attract plentiful punters. Nominated productions are those that opened since last year’s ES Awards (November 20).
‘Directed by Hampstead Theatre’s Artistic Director Edward Hall and designed Miriam Buether ,who raised the bar and built an indoor racetrack, Mike Bartlett’s winning adaptation of the sporting film about the class divide was championed by critics and Olympians. It is little wonder that the West End run of the Hampstead Theatre transfer has been extended to meet public demand’ Evening Standard
